What is a Monthly
Show/Meeting?
It can be
daunting to think of what a meeting could involve.
Is this a hobby only for the rich? Do I have enough
roses? But I am a beginner... These are all things
that flash through people's heads as they
contemplate coming to an event.
The simple answer
is that the Queensland Rose Society is made up of
all types of people and everyone will make you feel
welcome. The experience of some growers is
outstanding, but there are no secrets in roses. They
will share all of that knowledge with you and
without thinking any question is silly.
Monthly Meetings
involve a small rose show where members bring
flowers along at
7:00pm and put them put on display in
bottles provided at the hall. A list of entry
"classes" can be found at
Schedules.
These are then judged and at around 7.30pm there is
usually a presentation by either members or guest
speakers. There is time before and after this to
meet with experienced rose growers to ask anything
you like, or just discuss the beautiful display.
2023
National Rose Show Championships and
Conference
On behalf of the
Rose Society of Western Australia, it is
my great pleasure to invite you to attend
this year’s National Rose Show Championships
and Conference to be held in Perth on the 21st
and 22nd October 2023.
You will find the
attached Program of Events contains full
details of the conference, commencing on
Friday 20th October with a
Welcome Cocktail Party and concluding on
Sunday 22nd October with
additional guest speakers and a guided tour
by Patsy Durack of her magnificent
Gooseberry Hill Garden. In addition, we
have arranged a comprehensive
post-conference program from 23rd
to 26th October for delegates who
wish to extend their stay in Perth.
Highlights include a visit to Government
House Gardens, Queens Gardens,
the Swan Valley, a cruise to
Fremantle for a guided tour, and afternoon
tea at Western Australia’s Parliament House.
Yours sincerely,
Jillian Plester

Everyone
deserves Flowers!
Why not come
along to the Queensland Rose Society Rose Show. The Show will be held on the weekend of 20th-21st
May 2023. You will love the sight and scent of
hundreds of colourful, fragrant blooms, all in one
location. Throughout the show, there will be
friendly and experienced rose growers from the
Queensland Rose Society, on hand, to answer your

grow in Queensland and how to care for them. This
will be a great opportunity to view a wide variety
of roses and decide which ones you like best. There
will be cut roses, potted roses and gardening
products for sale, as well as a variety of ‘rosy
items’ and refreshments. Perfect gifts for everyone.
The Show will be held in the Auditorium at the
Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mt Coo-tha. Free parking
